E1 Films' Twilight is the No. 1 Movie in Canada for a Second Week

01 December 2008

TORONTO, Dec. 1 /CNW/ - E1 Films' Twilight topped the Canadian box office this weekend and remains the number one film in the country for a second straight week. The film has grossed over $9.9 million in Canada to date and is on track to exceed $10 million by the end of the day.

Prior to its November 21 opening, Twilight broke all previous Canadian records when advance sales for tickets topped $1million. Theatres across the country counted multiple sold-out shows and lineups of fans eager to see the immensely popular literary phenomenon come to life on the big screen.

Entertainment One, which holds the Canadian rights to the film across all media via E1 Films Canada, also owns the UK rights through its wholly owned subsidiary E1 Films/Contender. Twilight mania hits the UK later this month when it opens on December 19th.

Twilight stars Kristen Stewart (Into the Wild) and Robert Pattinson (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) as a post-modern Romeo and Juliet in an action-filled and suspenseful adventure with a supernatural bite. Twilight also features Canadian actress Rachelle Lefevre ("Swingtown") and is directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen).
