Shake Hands with the Devil going out wide across Canada this weekend

24 September 2007

Montreal, September 24, 2007 – The feature film Shake Hands with the Devil will be released by Seville Pictures this Friday September 28th on 100 screens across Canada, with 47 in the French dubbed version.

The $15 million Canadian production, entirely financed in Canada, is based on the best selling novel by Lt. General Romeo Dallaire. Directed by Roger Spottiswoode (Tomorrow Never Dies, And the Band Played On), it stars the renowned Canadian actor Roy Dupuis (The Rocket, Nikita) in role of the General.

The Quebec premiere was held on Wednesday September 26th at the Imperial Theater in the presence of Lt. General Romeo Dallaire, Roy Dupuis, the Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages, Quebec Minister of Education, Michelle Courchesne along with many dignitaries from politics to the local entertainment community.

Following its world premiere as a Special Presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival, and opening slots at both the Atlantic Film Festival and Sudbury Film Festivals the film has benefited from a multi-million dollar national promotional campaign composed of a sizable TV, radio and web campaign in both English and French markets.

At the grassroots level Seville worked with both the Romeo Dallaire Foundation and with Amnesty International to raise awareness for the film and Rwanda. Seville also worked with the Canadian Armed Forces Family Centers, the hub of communications for the over 50 000 people in the forces and their families. A contest was held across the family centers and Janet Stillwell, Second Lieutenant in the Canadian Army Reserve based in Calgary, was invited to attend the World premiere screening at the Toronto Film Festival.
